The Certificate in Business Studies programme aims to provide students with a sound knowledge of the basic concepts and principles needed in a business environment.
Upon successful completion of all modules, the successful candidate will be awarded the Certificate in Business Studies.
This is a 6-month full-time programme, covering 4 modules with a total of 168 contact hours.
The delivery of this programme involves lectures, group discussions, case studies and presentations by students. Lectures are conducted by qualified and experienced local lecturers approved by the Institute.
Students are required to pass the overall assessment in order to be granted a passing grade for each module. Singapore-based students are required to fulfil the attendance requirement of at least 75%, while international students requires of at least 90% for each module before they are considered eligible to take the examinations / assessment of the module concerned.
This module introduces to students basic management concepts, principles, tools, and practices. It will cover the application of management theories to practical problems in planning, organising. leading and controlling business activities. Students will explore what is involved in managing organisations today.
Some of the topics that will be covered:
• Introduction to management.
• The environment of management
• Planning, Organising, Leading and Controlling
The primary theme of this module is that marketing is undergoing dramatic and exciting changes and the field promises to be just as dynamic in the years ahead. Even the smallest firms are using innovative marketing techniques to compete globally. Students will explore what marketing is all about and gain an appreciation of what is really involved in marketing a company and its products effectively.

• Overview of Marketing
• Analysing marketing environment
• Pricing decisions
This module provides an introduction to the principles and concepts of accounting. It focuses on accounting procedures through the accounting cycle for a proprietorship, including special journals. This introductory accounting course assumes no prior knowledge of accounting.
Some of the topics that will be covered:
• Introduction to accounting concepts
• Cash control systems
• Financial statements for a proprietorship
This module on people in organisations has been designed to familiarise students with various aspects of people behaviour: how people and groups in organisations behave, react and interpret events, and how organisations shape behaviour. It provides students with the basic knowledge on a variety of organisational behaviour (OB) that is essential to being effective at all organisational levels.

• Introduction to organisational behaviour
• Foundations of group behaviour
• Understanding work teams
