The Advanced Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management programme aims to provide students with a managerial orientation towards tourism and hospitality management.
Students will be equipped with an integrated knowledge of management principles and the operations of the Tourism and Hospitality industries.
This is a 8-month part-time programme, covering 6 modules with a total of 216 contact hours.
The delivery of this programme involves lectures, group discussions, case studies, and presentations by students. Classes are usually held three times a week. Weekend block classes may be available subject to adequate student enrolment. Weekly lectures are conducted by qualified and experienced local lecturers approved by the institute.
Students are required to pass the overall assessment in order to be granted a passing grade for each module. All students are required to fulfill the attendance requirement of at least 75% for each module before they are considered eligible to take the examinations / assessment of the module concerned.
The objective of this module is to provide students with an overview of the tourism and hospitality business by focusing on the structure of the industry, its key sub-sectors, the inter-relationships between them, and identifying the key development and trends in the industry.
Some of the topics that will be covered:
• The tourist as a customer
• Managing tourism supply
• Types of lodgings
The objective of this module is to develop students’ understanding of the tourism and event management. It explores how the organisations integrate their business functions to plan, organise, and manage events as part of their tourism strategy.
Some of the topics that will be covered:
• Characteristics of travel, hospitality and event services
• Visitor attractions (site, design etc.)
• Visitor / participant roles, needs and preferances
This module gives an overview of the information gathering function from the perspective of the researchers who gather the information and the managers who use it. The module addresses the design, collection, analysis, and reporting of research data relevant to an organisation’s needs.
Some of the topics that will be covered:
• Data and analysis and generating result
• Survey design and methods
• The needs and importance of business research
The module aims to equip students with a functional familiarity and a conceptual foundation on the key issues in Human Resource Management (HRM). There is also a strong practical element to the module which enables students to put into practice the conceptual tools and frameworks developed.

• Training and development
• Introduction to Human Resource Management (HRM)
• Workplace safety and health
The module aims to equip students with the practical knowledge of the processes involved in tourism destination development, understanding of destination management and planning issues, and planning and marketing for destination management.
Some of the topics that will be covered:
• Tourism planning
• Destination branding
• Destination marketing planning
This module aims to provide students with the knowledge andskills in the managerial and decision-making aspects of the tourism and hospitality industry. It covers the underlying principles and concepts of marketing and managing tourism and hospitality services.
