Advanced Diploma in International Business

Introduction

The Advanced Diploma in International Business equips students with a combination of knowledge and skill sets to operate and compete in an increasingly integrated business world applicable to business executives and leaders. The course covers key concepts and knowledge which are necessary for managing international business successfully.

Upon successful completion of all modules, the successful candidate may operate confidently in the global business environment and will be awarded the Advanced Diploma in International Business.

Programme Structure

This is a 6-month part-time programme, covering 4 modules with a total of 100 contact hours.

The delivery of this programme involves lectures, group discussions, case studies and presentations by students. Lectures are conducted by qualified and experienced local lecturers approved by the Institute.

Students are required to pass the overall assessment in order to be granted a passing grade for each module. Singapore-based students are required to fulfil the attendance requirement of at least 75%, while international students requires of at least 90% for each module before they are considered eligible to take the examinations / assessment of the module concerned.

Module Synopsis

ADIB201 International Business Environment

An understanding of international business management is essential for students in today’s interdependent world. This module introduces management as it relates to the international business context.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Global Political Environment
  • Economic Environment and Strategy
  • Socio-Cultural Dynamics
  • Technological Factors and Innovation
  • International Legal Frameworks

ADIB202 International Trade & Finance

Students first gain understanding of the foundations of trade theories and economic principles to gain insights into key indicators that impact financial decision-making in a regional and global context.

Topics to be covered include:

  • International Trade Theories
  • Currency Exchange Systems and Risks
  • Financial Risk Management in Trade
  • Trade Finance Methods and Instruments (LO5)
  • Economic Integration and Trade Agreements (LO6)

ADIB203 International Business Management with Asian Focus

On completion of this module, students would have gained an understanding of how technological, political, legal and socio-cultural environments impact business practices in the international and Asian markets. They will be abel to analyse the business and economic interactions of the various Asia nations and the recognition and globalisation of their state and private sector enterprises.

ADIB204 Global Marketing Management - Asia Perspective

The objective of this module is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of marketing management principles and practices globally with specific examples adapted in the Asian context. Students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to formulate and execute effective marketing strategies that capitalise on the opportunities and overcome the challenges in both international and Asian markets.

Application & Administration Details

Entry Requirements

All applicants must possess any one of the following of the equivalent recognised qualification:

  • MIS Business School Diploma graduates, or
  • Diploma from a local polytechnic, or
  • Diploma from a recognised PEI or equivalent academic qualifications from an overseas institution, or
  • At least 12 years of formal education qualification (such as GCE A Levels, China KaoGao, Malaysia STPM, India SSCE or equivalent).
  • Mature candidates of 30 years old with at least 8 years of work experience.
  • Candidates with other qualifications can be considered on case-by-case basis.

English Requirements

  • A C6 in GCE ‘O’ Level English, or
  • At least IELTS 5.5, or
  • At least iBT TOEFL 46 – 59, or
  • Its equivalent (Applicants may be subjected to a written and/or oral assessment of their language proficiency conducted by the PEI). If the candidate's highest qualification is completed in English, the candidate is deemed to have met the required English proficiency level.

Minimum Age Requirement

All applicants must be aged 17 and above.
