Advanced Diploma in International Events Management and MICE

Introduction

The Advanced Diploma in International Events Management and MICE programme aims to provide students with a managerial orientation towards events management.

Students will be equipped with management principles as well as operations perspectives of managing events and MICE businesses.

Programme Structure

This is a 8-month part-time programme, covering 6 modules with a total of 216 contact hours.

The delivery of this programme involves lectures, group discussions, case studies, and presentations by students. Classes are usually held three times a week. Weekend block classes may be available subject to adequate student enrolment. Weekly lectures are conducted by qualified and experienced local lecturers approved by the institute.

Students are required to pass the overall assessment in order to be granted a passing grade for each module. All students are required to fulfill the attendance requirement of at least 75% for each module before they are considered eligible to take the examinations / assessment of the module concerned.

Module Synopsis

ADE201 Event Marketing

This module covers the application of marketing concepts to generate significant awareness and appeal for an event. It will examine how to market an event, promote it, generate interest, and attract participants. Students will learn about the broad range of marketing techniques and the application of other tools. Finally, students will also learn how to evaluate the success of the event in terms of revenue generated, publicity secured, and feedback from the participants who attended.

Some of the topics that will be covered:

• Position and differentiation
• Event marketing mix theory and practice of event marketing

ADE202 Tourism and Event Management

The objective of this module is to develop students’ understanding of the tourism and event management industry. It explores how organisations integrate their business functions to plan, organise, and manage events as part of their tourism strategy.

Some of the topics that will be covered:

• Characteristics of travel, hospitality and event services
• Analysis of the ‘macro’ and ‘micro’ environments for tourism, events businesses and organisation
• Risk assessment and crises management in tourism and events

ADE203 Research for Event and MICE Management

This module gives an overview of the information gathering function from the perspective of the researchers who gather the information and the managers who use it. The module addresses the design, collection, analysis, and reporting of research data relevant to an organisation’s needs. Students will learn the fundamental research framework and appreciate the interactions among the parts of the research process so as to arrive at a research result with confidence in the events and MICE industry.

Some of the topics that will be covered:

• Types of business research
• Data analysis and generating results
• Survey design and methods

ADE204 Human Resource Management

The module aims to equip students with a functional familiarity and a conceptual foundation on the key issues in Human Resource Management (HRM). There is also a strong practical element to the module which enables students to put into practice the conceptual tools and frameworks developed.

Some of the topics that will be covered:

• Training and development
• Introduction to Human Resource Management (HRM)
• Workplace safety and health

ADE205 Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions (MICE) Management

This module provides students with an overview of the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions) sector of the tourism industry. Students will learn the basic theories and concepts of MICE, the various stakeholders and suppliers involved in MICE events, resources required for carrying out MICE, and industry issues and trends affecting MICE.

Some of the topics that will be covered:

• Event components and sectors involved in MICE
• Impact and important of MICE
• Challenges and trends in the MICE industry

ADE206 Capstone Project: International Event Planning & Development

This module aims to equip students with the practical knowledge on international event planning and development. It will examine strategies and techniques required for successful planning, marketing, implementation, and evaluation of events. Students will simulate the practice of event planning and development through completing an event project.

Some of the topics that will be covered:

• Environmental management and sustainability
• Risk management
• Developing an event concept

Application & Administration Details

Entry Requirements

All applicants must possess any one of the following of the equivalent recognised qualification:

  • MIS Business School Diploma graduates, or
  • Diploma from a local Polytechnic, or
  • Diploma or the equivalent qualification from a recognised PEI, or
  • Mature candidates of 30 years old with at least 8 years of work experience, or
  • Candidates with other qualifications can be considered on case-by-case basis.

English Requirements

  • At least IELTS 5.5, or
  • At least iBT TOEFL 46 – 59, or
  • A pass in GCE ‘O’ Level English, or
  • Its equivalent (Applicants may be subjected to a written and/or oral assessment of their language proficiency conducted by the PEI).
  • *Minimum age requirement: 17 years old
