Advanced Diploma in International Business

Introduction

The Advanced Diploma in International Business equips students with a combination of knowledge and skill sets to operate and compete in an increasingly integrated business world.

Business executives and leaders interact with counterparts of diverse culture, diverse talent with varying experiences, working ethos and practices. The course covers key concepts and knowledge which are necessary for managing international business successfully. Upon successful completion of all modules, the successful candidate may operate confidently in the global business environment and will be awarded the Advanced Diploma in International Business.

Programme Structure

This is a 6-month full-time programme, covering 4 modules with a total of 168 contact hours.

The delivery of this programme involves lectures, group discussions, case studies and presentations by students. Classes are usually held five times a week. Weekly lectures are conducted by qualified and experienced local lecturers approved by the Institute.

Students are required to pass the overall assessment in order to be granted a passing grade for each module. Singapore-based students are required to fulfil the attendance requirement of at least 75%, while international students requires of at least 90% for each module before they are considered eligible to take the examinations / assessment of the module concerned.

Module Synopsis

DIMB101 Introduction to International Business Management

An understanding in international business management is essential for students in today’s independent world. This module provides an introduction to management as it relates to the international business context.

Some of the topics that will be covered:

• The most widely used international business terms and concepts.
• International business decisions in the context of cultural political, legal, and economic forces.
• Trade and investment theory and the effects of government intervention and aid.

DIMB102 Fundamentals of Economics & Finance in a Global Environment

Students first gain understanding of the boundaries of accounting principles and economic principles to gain insights into key microeconomic and macroeconomic indicators that impacts financial decision making in a regional and global context.

• Microeconomics
• Macroeconomics
• Global Financial Markets and Institutions • International Finance

DIMB103 International Marketing Strategy

On completion of this module, students would have gained an understanding of marketing concepts, have the ability to analyse consumer markets, and be able to formulate marketing strategies for both local and international markets.

Some of the topics that will be covered:

• Cross-cultural consumer behaviour
• Balancing Standardization versus Adaptation
• Market entry and resource allocation acoross markets • Branding Strategies for Global Markets

DIMB104 Organisational Behaviour: A Cross-Cultural Perspective

This module equips students with knowledge on factors that energise, direct and sustain effort across cultures. It is important for students to undertand the relationship between the individual and the organisation, and relationship between psychological contacts, justice, citizenship behaviour and person-environment fit.

• Cultural Dimensions and Their Impact on Behaviour

Application & Administration Details

Entry Requirements

All applicants must possess any one of the following of the equivalent recognised qualification:

  • MIS Business School Diploma graduates, or
  • Diploma from a local Polytechnic, or
  • Diploma or the equivalent qualification from a recognised PEI, or
  • Mature candidates of 30 years old with at least 8 years of work experience, or
  • Candidates with other qualifications can be considered on case-by-case basis.

English Requirements

  • At least IELTS 5.5, or
  • At least iBT TOEFL 46 – 59, or
  • A pass in GCE ‘O’ Level English, or
  • Its equivalent (Applicants may be subjected to a written and/or oral assessment of their language proficiency conducted by the PEI).
  • *Minimum age requirement: 16 years old
